  1. CA Coaxial Repeater (Beeline distance: 1214498 m) CA Coaxial Repeater This is a stub page for a coaxial cable-type repeater station in California along I-10. My assumption is that it's a L-4 or L-5 route but that needs to be confirmed. It is now colocated with a modern precast concrete hut for fiber regenerators, and is very close to a Sprint fiber regenerator called Redcloud.
  2. Glenwood WNM Office (Beeline distance: 1216941 m) Glenwood WNM Office Western New Mexico Telephone Co, which today goes by WNM Communications, has a charming small rural exchange in Glenwood, NM. It's a good example of an exchange for a remote area, housing a Nortel DMS-10. The DMS-10 is popular in rural exchanges due to its small size, and WNM operates many DMS-10 offices in rural New Mexico.

  4. Monticello FAA Microwave Station (Beeline distance: 1279666 m) Monticello FAA Microwave Station Like Fort Craig FAA Microwave Station, Monticello has an “H” tower built for “periscope” antennas---the actual antenna was near ground level for easier service and shorter waveguides, with passive reflectors on the crossbar at the top of the tower to redirect the beam in a horizontal direction. This station was built for an FAA relay path up and down the Rio Grande corridor. It is still in use.
  5. Monticello Microwave Station (Beeline distance: 1283896 m) Monticello Microwave Station Monticello is an AT&T microwave station near Elephant Butte in central New Mexico. Like several microwave stations on this north-south route, Monticello has an “extended” tower with a tall lattice section above the original top deck. This is speculation, but I assume the extension was added to allow for later microwave antennas to be installed higher up, perhaps improving a previously unreliable connection. Monticello appears to be of later vintage for these station…
  6. Fort Craig FAA Microwave Station (Beeline distance: 1320575 m) Fort Craig FAA Microwave Station This is a microwave relay built for the FAA, part of a chain up the Rio Grande valley. It is in a distinctive “H” tower style, intended to support a “periscope” configuration with the antennas on the roof of the building below and passive reflectors at the top of the tower. This setup is no longer installed, instead it has a couple of small parabolic antennas at the top.
  7. Unknown Mojave Radio Repeater (Beeline distance: 1334976 m) Unknown Mojave Radio Repeater This appears to be a UHF point-to-point repeater, near Kelbaker road. it is mostly interesting because of its apparent 1980s vintage and early PV installation. I have not been able to learn anything so far about its history or purpose, but it appears to be disused and has no signage.

Built 1963 Callsign KNL55 ASR None Fate American Tower Per the Kelso Depot HBR, this station was built in 1963-1964, with Southern California Edison and Pacific Telephone & Telegraph crews staying as guests in the depot during construction.
  9. Socorro L-3I Underground (Beeline distance: 1358045 m) Socorro L-3I Underground Socorro, or Socorro #2, was a switching main station for the transcontinental L-3I station. It's a relatively large station for the system, as it housed an AUTOVON tandem and served (at least for a time) as an alternate regional NOC and synchronization clock source.
  10. L-3I Repeater L1E (Beeline distance: 1359322 m) L-3I Repeater L1E This L-3I repeater, east of Socorro, is pretty much the same as all the others. Since the door was open to take photos, though, it serves as a good example. Built Early 1960s Fate Abandoned Routes Destination Direction
  11. Sunshine Microwave Station (Beeline distance: 1362121 m) Sunshine Microwave Station The Sunshine microwave station is located directly across I-40 from the road to Meteor crater. This area is not particularly prominent but still has several different radio sites, including an FAA GATR. Built ??? Builder
  12. Kingman L-3I Underground (Beeline distance: 1367042 m) Kingman L-3I Underground Like other L-3I main stations, this is an underground, hardened station. There is no microwave tower at Kingman, and it has not received any of the additional underground buildings common at some other L-3I stations. There is just the surface entry structure (in its original white and blue paint), ventilation, and a hoistway.
  13. Kelso Peak Microwave Station (Beeline distance: 1374006 m) Kelso Peak Microwave Station Microwave station on a good peak in the Mojave National Preserve. 15. Santa Rosa Microwave Station (Beeline distance: 1552386 m) Santa Rosa Microwave Station The AT&T Santa Rosa microwave station is located with a cluster of radio sites on a low mesa almost 20 miles from its namesake town. It is immediately next to Colonias Qwest Microwave Station. This same hilltop is also known as Moon Ranch, found on state and PNM radio licenses.
  16. Colonias Qwest Microwave Station (Beeline distance: 1552436 m) Colonias Qwest Microwave Station Colonias is a former Qwest (formerly US West, later CenturyLink) microwave repeater on a low mesa northwest of Santa Rosa, immediately next door to Santa Rosa Microwave Station AT&T station. This same hilltop is also known as Moon Ranch, found on state and PNM radio licenses. I believe I have identified the site and licenses correctly for the photographed site, based on some circumstantial connections made to names and phone numbers on paperwork in the abandoned…

  18. Tucumcari L-3I Underground (Beeline distance: 1618488 m) Tucumcari L-3I Underground The Tucumcari station is a power feed for the transcontinental L-3I cable. It is located some distance south of Tucumcari. Unlike most of the L-3I undergrounds in the West, it has a rather modern and relatively large surface building, suggesting that it's seen significant reuse for some type of equipment.
  19. Tucumcari J Repeater (Beeline distance: 1623615 m) Tucumcari J Repeater Tucumcari is home to a former repeater on the Fourth Transcontinental Telephone Line, which runs from Albuquerque to Amarillo in this area. 21. Wagon Mound J Repeater (Beeline distance: 1661435 m) Wagon Mound J Repeater This is a J-carrier repeater directly by the railroad tracks and near I-25 in northwestern New Mexico. It is located immediately next to a set of operational semaphore signals on the railroad, so it's not unusual for it to make an appearance in the background of railfan photos. This repeater served an open-wire route between Denver and Albuquerque then, ultimately, El Paso.
  22. Lascar J Repeater (Beeline distance: 1823428 m) Lascar J Repeater This is a J-carrier repeater immediately adjacent to I-25, on an open-wire route between Denver and Albuquerque. It has been reused as an art gallery, somewhat surprising since it is quite remote from any towns. I don't know much about this route, but the next repeater north is probably Greenland.

Colorado Overton Mystery Repeater (Beeline distance: 1898587 m) Colorado Overton Mystery Repeater In Colorado, along the I-25 corridor south of Denver, there are several buildings that appear (based on various evidence, sometimes only circumstantial) to be telephone cable repeaters. It's hard to sort out their history, as several different long-distance lines have passed through this area over the years, including a transcontinental cable route that I know little about but might be related to this station. This is very much unfinished research and it's a di…

  29. Mud Lake Microwave Station (Beeline distance: 2340437 m) Mud Lake Microwave Station Mud Lake is an AT&T microwave station in Idaho. Built Builder AT&T Fate American Tower #89413, abandoned The Long Lines Site Map on Google Map Maker has this listed as “Mud City” (and also with the wrong call sign), but the license and tower parts both give the name Mud Lake. Despite its neighbors being KYC28 and KYC30, KYC29 doesn't appear in FCC ULS, so I'm not sure if that callsign was ever real.
